The MWHL is a hockey league for women of all abilities that plays only in Eagle County using the ice rinks in Vail and Eagle. With an emphasis on coaching, this is the place to acquire new skills, play locally, and experience good sportsmanship, friendship and fun. Originally the idea of Ginny Crowley, a long-time local goalie, it has now grown large enough to be sponsored and administered by Western Eagle County Metropolitan Recreation District (WECMRD). During the first season (2003-04), four teams competed (60 women), expanding to 5 teams in its second season. In 2009 a 6th team was added to round out the league with more than 90 women taking part.
