Coaching is an integral part of the Mountain Women's Hockey League. The objective is to teach or improve the skills of each player and to do this, we begin each season with a Training Camp. Skating is the primary skill in hockey and much time is spent developing that skill. Stick handling and shooting, offensive and defensive positioning, and specific playing situations are all aspects of the game that are covered during Training Camp. During the regular season, coaches direct practices and games to further the development of all players.
We are very grateful to our coaches who voluntarily help us improve our hockey skills and our enjoyment of the game!!!!

Rob Fawcett has been invaluable in developing the coaching program for the MWHL from its inception. Rob has been involved in hockey for (we won't say how many) years as both player and coach. He grew up playing hockey in North Dakota and continued to play through college. He played for the Vail Mountaineers in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Rob started his coaching career with with Vail Junior Hockey at about the same time and has been coaching ever since. He helped organize the high school midget team, coaching for 4 years. He was also instrumental in the fund raising, design and construction of the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink for WECMRD.

Paul Redmond arrived in Eagle County seven years ago, and one of the first things he did was to find a hockey team to coach. Fortunately for the MWHL, Paul was willing to contribute his knowledge and experience as a U-19 girls hockey coach, University of Wyoming assistant and player/coach, and instructor at DM's hockey camp to help the league in its initial season. Paul also holds a Level 4 USA Hockey coaching certification and is instrumental in organizing the early season training clinics for WECMRD.

Alice Plain is a noted athlete in Eagle County. Her hockey career began on an ice sheet in her back yard in Indiana and continued with a variety of recreational programs through college. She has played hockey with the Vail "Breakaways", the woman's A level hockey team, for many years, including as a player/coach. As the Director of Golf at Vail Golf Club, Alice spends her summers organizing and encouraging golfers. Players in the MWHL are fortunate to have the example of Alice on the ice or the golf course.

Mick Kelly became a MWHL coach to assist his wife's team at the beginning of the 5th season. For a husband and father of two young children, this was a considerable commitment and a great boon to the MWHL program. Mick has a wealth of hockey knowledge which he has used to make the "Brewsers" an annual threat in the league. When not coaching hockey, Mick is a realtor in the Eagle area.

Brian Culp is a lover of many sports. He grew up playing several sports and currently uses his knowledge of all sports as a buyer for Charter Sports. He decided to take up hockey 13 years ago and soon became fascinated with the sport. He quickly became a student of the game and enjoys coaching and playing in local leagues. He loves to share his knowledge and experience with others and now coaches middle school football at Minturn Middle School in addition to his MWHL team, the "Checkers".

Karrisa Keltner is an Eagle County native and learned to play hockey with the Vail Junior Hockey Association (now VEJHA) which meant she grew up playing with the boys. This accounts for her aggressive play for the Vail "Breakaways"women's hockey team and for her enthusiastic support of women's hockey and the MWHL.

Paul Juliano from Eagle, (of JR Crickets Fame) has graciously stepped up to become the coach for the "Insulators", MWHL's newest team. Paul Juliano founded J.R. Crickets in 1982 with a single store at 631 Spring Street, in Atlanta Georgia. It was Paul's vision and willingness to go the extra mile that turned J.R. Crickets into a regular icon in the Atlanta landscape as it serves 10,000+ wings a day to loyal patrons. He regularly plays hockey at the Eagle Rink in the Men's League and will now be seen there even more frequently coaching the new "Insulators" team!
